This invitation uses a distressing technique with acrylic paint on coloured paper to get the shabby look. The paper is then torn to provide a background and embellished with a selection of flowers, pearls, bows in matching shades.
From the Wedding Crafter shop you will need:
- Square cream card blank, insert and envelope
- Pearlescent paper in lilac and pink
A selection of coordinating embellishments. We used:
- Padded ivory satin heart
- Ivory pearl bead string
- Tea roses in ivory/pink and ivory/lilac
- Small cream bow
Plus
- Peel-off sticker
- Double sided sticky tape
- PVA craft glue
You will also need cream acrylic paint and a paintbrush. You can mix cream from white acrylic paint with tiny amounts of red and yellow.
To create the distressed paper, mix your cream paint and then apply sparingly to the pearlescent paper using a dry paintbrush. The brushstrokes should be clearly visible and the background paper colour should show through in places.
Cut one piece of paper (the base) to 140mm x 140mm. Cut the other colour paper to 140mm wide and 120mm tall and then tear across on an angle creating 2 pieces. Tear one of the pieces again approx 1cm from the torn edge so that the 2 sides don't match.
Glue the torn pieces to the top and bottom of the base piece - trim the edges to 140mm if required. If the paper has curled, place flat under a heavy book overnight.
Now add embellishments as you wish. Our example uses a group of ivory/lilac tea roses, a single ivory/pink rose with a cream bow and a padded ivory satin heart. We then glued pearl bead string along the torn paper edges. Experiment with different arrangements and once you are happy with your design attach everything using PVA glue.
To attach your collage to the card using double sided sticky tape as shown - it will be quite heavy so adhesive tape pens or glue sticks are not recommended.
Add a peel-off sticker to finish ( we used just the "Invitation" part of a Wedding Invitation peel-off).
Print your insert using your PC and attach inside your invitation.
