Wedding Stationery Etiquette - Order of the Day

An Order of the Day is the equivalent of an Order of Service but for a civil ceremony. It is not essential but is helpful for your guests and provides a lovely memento of your day.

You can also provide a separate Order of the Day where you are having a religious ceremony if you wish to keep your guests informed about timings throughout the whole day.

Ideally you should provide one for each guest although you can get away with one per couple/family if your budget is tight.

As this is a fairly recent innovation there are no traditional rules to stick to, although you will probably want to include the following:

  • Your names, wedding date and the venue
  • The timings for the whole day
  • Details of the marriage ceremony itself - music, readings etc

Example wording of an Order of the Day:
