DIY Wedding Trends for 2011 Part 1 - Styles
November, 8th 2010
With 2010 almost over we look at predictions for DIY wedding fashion for 2011, and spot the trends that are setting the stage for the most stylish weddings next season. This month we look at the styles which are leading the way. Next month it's the hottest new colour schemes for the new year.
Art Deco
The elegance and sophistication of the 1930's will be making huge waves as brides to be try on their dresses and go for a sleek fitting form with glamorous touches.
For your stationery, go for geometric shapes and then add diamontes, feathers or glittered embellishments. Or use this Rennie Mackintosh inspired rubber stamp.
To finish the look, choose a font like Broadway for your wording.
For your reception use a basic palette of black, ivory and silver and make sure you have plenty of sparkle. You can also add an accent colour - aqua and deep red both work well. But don't go over the top - you want a sleek, uncluttered look so restrict your flowers to a single variety such as calla lilies or roses.
1950's
The 1950's were certainly glamorous (think Breakfast at Tiffany's) but also fun (Rock 'n' Roll) so this is a great theme for a less formal wedding.
For your stationery try this wallet style invitation with red polka dot ribbon.

Pastels also work well with this theme, but make sure they are not too subtle - bubblegum rather than baby pink for example.
For your reception why not hire a juke box and go for a sweet buffet instead of a chocolate fountain?
And if your budget will stretch to it, how about arriving in a pink Cadillac?
Vintage Shabby Chic
Hot in 2010 this is one trend that we predict will remain as popular as ever next year. This is a great theme for a country wedding - think tea sets and bunting.
For your stationery use creams with muted colours like rose pink or lilac. Check out this invitation project for how to get the look:
This theme is really great for DIY brides as you can make your own bunting, cupcakes and centrepieces (with a bit of help from friends and family!) and it doesn't matter if something isn't 100% perfect - it will just add to the natural charm.
For your flowers there are some fabulous rose varieties which really work well for this theme like Cezanne, Metalina and Amnesia - ask your florist for advice. Or try luscious pink peonies. Check out some top examples from one of our favourite florists, Miss Pickering.
